These vases show the organic, contorting, twisting, and enchanting nature of trees in their infinite variety, form and texture. The finished pieces are figurative and full of character. They are spirits of the forest, the markings are ghostly memories of the trees patterns of growth and resilience, mystical and mysterious. They invite us to study them, experience the slowing down of time and the changing of the seasons, witnessing the constant transformation of the natural world.

I make clay rubbings of bark then mould the pieces of clay onto branches found in my woods. I let the shapes guide the process and stop when the piece feels complete. Each form has its own expression and individual marks.
