These vases are built to mimic trees. I wanted to show the organic, contorting, twisting, and enchanting nature of these giants, reminding us of the history of tree and woodland representation in our past through myth, poetry, and art. I make clay rubbings of bark then mould the pieces of clay onto branches found in my woods. I let the shapes guide the process and stop when the piece feels complete. Each form has its own expression and individual marks.
