collection: HYRST
Hyrst is an Old English term meaning A WOODED HILL, HIILLOCK, THICKET OR GROVE. It is a common, archaic element found in British place names designating a wooded elevation or a settlement located near a wood eg sandhurst.
These designs represent the twisting branches and trunks of the trees in my woodland, the pattern emphasising the form. using the branches themselves to mould the clay I then handbuild the forms allowing the form to emerge. the lined pattern is a symbol of the wood grain, representing growth.
